This programme focuses on Denbigh High School, in Luton, as they prepare for a school trip to Barcelona.
It is argued by some that school trips provide pupils with their most enduring school memories. Trips also provide opportunities for learning unavailable within the curriculum.
Denbigh is based in urban surroundings, with a high proportion of students from economically disadvantaged homes. When the teaching staff have organised trips in the past, some pupils have been experiencing their very first travels abroad.
Teachers are really motivated to organise events in the knowledge that the horizons of students are being extended far beyond their current experience, and they are keen to get the parents on board to support trips like this one to Barcelona.
This is part of a series of short programmes exploring events within the school year, featuring interviews with members of staff responsible for managing and delivering the events.
