Can business volunteers with no experience of teaching really help young children with their reading?
In this programme, we explore how Barton Hill Infant and Nursery School in Bristol has benefited from the services of a group of reading buddies from their local branch of the Bank of Ireland.
Volunteers from the bank have been working with the school for the past two years, with buddies giving up a lunch hour every week to spend time reading with the children.
The children have also been welcomed into the buddies' workplace to experience the world of work first hand, proving that there is much more to be gained from this scheme than just reading practice.
