Every year the dyslexic students at Harris City Technology College, gain between 70 and 80 per cent of five or more top GCSE passes.
This programme investigates what's behind the success of this south east London school, and offers practical strategies to help teachers in other schools identify dyslexic pupils and enable them to achieve in a mainstream classroom environment.
Debbie Hart, SENCO and specialist dyslexia teacher at the college, spends an hour every week with each of her dyslexic students, providing them with one to one support and strategies to help them back in the classroom.
Each student has a programme of support that is tailor made to their individual needs. Students use ICT as a helpful tool to complement their classroom-based learning through various targeted exercises with Debbie to improve aspects of their literacy skills.
