It is no longer statutory for teachers in Wales to deal with SATs or NCTs at the end of KS2; the onus of assessment now rests with the schools and teachers.
To find out more about what's been happening, Llyn Codling - headteacher at Isambard Brunel Junior School in Portsmouth - visits a cluster of primary schools in Cardiff.
The schools are involved in a cross-phase moderation project that's aimed at ensuring their assessment of pupils is fair, and that the data gathered has as much impact as possible on the transition to secondary.
