Head of a large comprehensive school in Birmingham, Kevin Hull talks about how he set up Education for Sustainable Development programmes in his department.
Kevin reveals the kind of work he has introduced, including an Eco Bean Cafe project in Year 7, and a Year 10 design project based on the three Rs: reduce, recycle, and reuse.
According to the DfES, D&T departments must make sure pupils who go on to become designers in the future, understand the issues around sustainable development, and always think in terms of how the products they make meet social, economic and environmental considerations.
Kevin has made it his mission to get his pupils to automatically think about sustainability in all their design and construction activities.
