Unlike many other professions, teaching is a job that can be returned to at any point in an individual's career.
In this programme, Peter Curran hosts a discussion with Mary Doherty from the TDA and headteacher Kate Griffin, herself a returner, to discuss the merits of those who have spent time away from the classroom.
We visit Roehampton University and take a look at their returners course, designed to help former teachers get up to speed after a break in their career.
In addition, we send TES journalist Fiona Flynn back to the school she taught in 10 years ago to explore what changes would-be returners might face.
