Working with Families - Children Can Change

Description

In this programme we hear the story of how well Jack, a child previously excluded from school for 18 months, is now doing back in the classroom.

Jack and his mother Lorraine attended the NHS Marlborough Education Centre in London for four mornings a week. After a few months, both agreed that they had changed.

"I had to take control and show Jack I was in control", says Lorraine.

The Marlborough Education Centre works with groups of families together to tackle severe behavioural problems and all parents and children gather to discuss each pupil's behaviour.

Children have individual behaviour targets and parents, who support and advise each other, are expected to provide good or bad consequences for their good or bad behaviour at school.

Marlborough staff are now encouraging primary and secondary schools to use the centre's multi-family group approach within schools.
