Working with Families - Dealing with Family Breakdown

Description

When families break down, teachers are often confronted with serious challenges from both pupils and their parents.

In this programme, a panel of educators explore how teachers can deal with some common problem situations with the help of educational psychologist Eva Wickham.

Three dramatised scenes depict typical situations, from a teacher struggling to contain arguing parents, to having to handle a disclosure in circle time or manage an angry teenager in class.

The discussions that follow concentrate on how teachers can deal effectively with these situations, and what they can and cannot do realistically, practically and legally.

Issues covered include managing tempers, dealing with confidences and addressing the behavioural impact on pupils.

Our panel features learning mentor Andrew Beagley (Rosendale Primary), headteacher Sue Newby (Wroxton Primary School) together with teachers Kate Darby (Bygrove Primary), Steph Garner (Sweyne Park Secondary) and Kenny Wellington (Islington Green Secondary).
