Secondary Careers Advisors - Mock Interviews

Description

Award-winning careers advisor Lynne Coy has honed her approach to mock interviews over the last 15 years at Yewlands School in Sheffield.

She organises a mock interview day, a big event involving 170 Year 11 students, 20 staff and around 25 employers from the local community.

Covering a range of different industries, from the police and army to sports and engineering, the pupils are interviewed by professionals for a fictitious job vacancy. During an evaluation process with Lynne, the pupils share their views on the experience.

Pupils are prepared for the mock interview day in three ways:

  • An interview skills lesson, preparing students for coming face to face with real employers
  • Using sequencing cards to role-play questions asked by employers at previous events
  • Feeding back to the group their individual emotions concerning their impending interview
