The School Is Alive

Description

This programme looks at how whole-school singing can improve children's behaviour, raise esteem and help to develop a strong sense of community.

Devonshire Primary School in Smethwick has introduced Singing Games as part of a Singing Communities project devised by Birmingham's Ex-Cathedra choir.

As a result, the entire school enjoys singing. The playground has become the stage and the children, from a range of different backgrounds and cultures, have united to form the choir.

Children are taught to be Song Leaders and regularly instigate singing games (including skipping games, clapping games, chanting and hopscotch) in the playground.
