This programme looks at how one headteacher saved a primary school from the brink of closure with a radical timetable of sport, activities and playtime initiatives.
In 1999, Fair Furlong Primary school was spiralling out of control with an uneviable record of vandalism, bullying, poor attendance and chronic rates of numeracy and literacy.
That is, until Peter Overton was appointed, the school's fourth head in two years.
Peter turned the school round with an energetic curriculum of sport and playtime activities. He funded the initiatives using a wide range of educational opportunities, regeneration funding, grants, NOFF and sponsorship programmes.
This programme illustrates how sport and activities can be used to nurture and inspire children as well as to respect and support the achievement of others.
It gives an excellent overview on how to construct and fund the activities using staff and outside resources.
