It is the summer term and after a tough and tiring induction year, our two London-based primary NQTs, Jody Todd and Lucy Timmins, are close to the finishing line.
But their Year 5 and 6 classes continue to produce more challenges. Lucy faces a class of almost all girls just reaching puberty, while Jody tackles a class with difficult behavioural issues. Both NQTs also confront a bigger, more in-depth curriculum. To add to these stresses, the end of year tests loom, and both prepare pupils for SATS and optional SATS. With these hurdles still to overcome, the summer holidays feel a long way off.
Induction expert and TES columnist Sara Bubb is on hand to offer strategies for surviving these testing times.
