Brush up on successful team...
- Education Professionals
This programme hears the stories of two site managers who are devoted to making their schools comfortable, safe and vibrant places to learn in.
Mary Mallinson, the site manager at Blakehill Primary, loves her job and puts a huge amount of effort into it. For her, a clean and tidy school is the perfect setting for children's education and helps the teachers concentrate on their lessons and preparation.
Mary was exactly what headteacher Kathryn Brooks was looking for, she says: someone who was child-friendly and who would use her own initiative. The school dinner ladies and staff are also hugely positive and Julie Morton, the school administrator, says she is already dreading the day Mary retires.
At Abbey Hill special school in Teeside, the retiring site manager Vic Brown, who now works two days a week, had a hand in selecting his replacement. He shares his views on what the job requires while reflecting on his 25 years of service.
Headteacher Clare Devine describes him as the lynchpin of her team and both heads agree that creating such an environment is stimulating and motivating for their children.
