In the idyllic Cornish town of Padstow, chef and restaurateur Rick Stein shuts up shop. He is on his way to teach in a secondary school for the first time in his life. He faces a class of 15 year-olds who consider the subject of poetry to be, at best, "boring".
Rick, on the other hand, has loved poetry since childhood, particularly the work of Seamus Heaney. Can he overcome both his own nervousness and the poetry cynics of Year 9?
In a moving encounter, the novice teacher coaxes some eloquent responses from pupils who have never before discussed concepts such as "love" and "admiration" in front of their peers.
