In this programme we look at how sharing responsibility and resources can reduce workload and improve work-life balance. Cyriack Stevenson and Clare Hewitt are NQTs who employ different strategies to share the load.
Cyriack uses "team teaching" in his drama class. He shares his lessons with his mentor and head of department. We see that although this type of teaching makes lesson planning even more crucial, there are valuable benefits which can be gained by both new and more experienced teachers, as well as the pupils.
In Clare's school, resources are pooled within the language department to allow teachers to utilise a wider range of information within their lessons. Clare shows how this saves time as well as helping her learn from the more experienced members of staff.
Meanwhile education expert Julian Stern watches both NQTs at work and comments and offers advice on their methods.
