How do you get a class of 30 to learn the skills of building a thrilling story in pictures?
Emma Bull is an English and media teacher at Parkside Community College, a specialist Media Arts College in Cambridge. In this programme we follow her Year 8 class over the course of a day.
We see the class analyse, plan, shoot and edit short, tense sequences based on hospital dramas such as Casualty.
Emma uses a camera fed through an interactive whiteboard to model the rigorous planning required by editing in-camera. We see small groups of children working together in class and on location around the school to create some interesting short films.
We also hear from advanced skills teacher James Durran how practical media production motivates the students, supports moving image work at Key Stage 3, and develops transferable skills of analysis and collaboration.
