At Sackville Community College in East Grinstead, the Special Needs department are developing strategies for less academic students to succeed.
This film follows their work and looks at how the Year 11 STAR (Students to Achieve Results) group work on a reduced curriculum alongside vocational and certificated courses.
This is transforming the group and they talk frankly about how it has worked for them, their hopes and ambitions.
"You have to make sure that any teacher who is involved in a group like the STAR group treats them with respect," says Angie Shrubsole-Brett, a deputy SENCO. "They know if they're not being taught well, they know if they're getting the short end of the stick. Their teacher needs to be very committed."
