Wash and Learn

Jon Scieszka meets a teacher who has introduced an innovative and fun way of learning outside the classroom, for primary and secondary English pupils.

Jon Scieszka, the best selling American children's writer and US ambassador for children's literature, introduces Wash and Learn, at a huge American laundromat.

Teacher, Gina Smith, came up with the initiative when she noticed children playing video games and watching TV at a huge laundromat, when they could have been reading and talking about books.

Gina and volunteer student teachers go to the laundromat twice a week with books and offer children the opportunity to read and learn. The project has so far been a success.
