KS3 Modern Foreign Languages - Engaging the Class 1

Description

Horbury School tackles the gap in the exam results between boys and girls in modern foreign languages by experimenting with a single-sex setting.

This programme explores how head of modern foreign languages Gill Wheeler and her department set up the project and successfully catered for the different learning styles of the boys and girls in order to raise motivation and attainment all round.

Engaging the Class 1 will be of value to modern foreign language teachers looking for new strategies to engage the class.

Key points include:

  • The motivation behind the experiment
  • How it was set up
  • How those involved gauge its success
  • A closer look at some of the different approaches used in the boys' and girls' classes and the theory behind them
  • Members of the department talking about what they believe the future of teaching holds and how they can apply what they have learnt to mixed classes
