Find out the best way to introduce final-year primary pupils to life in secondary school. This video for headteachers and teachers examines three secondary schools' approaches to induction and transition.
The three key points in this video are: there are different approaches to tackling induction; it's important to get students actively involved in the transfer process; and moving from primary to secondary school is an important rite of passage for pupils.
Two of the Brighton schools have traditional induction days, with pupils enjoying a taste of life in secondary school. They explore the ICT suites, science labs and drama studios.
But the third school has stopped running induction days, replacing them with a 'meet the mentor' event for parents and students.
