Deputy headteacher Howard Lovell selects three SchoolsWorld videos which he feels link strongly with his school's development plan. He explains his choices, and how they have inspired his work at Highcliffe St Mark Primary in Dorset.
His first choice, "Global Citizenship post 9/11 - How do they do it in the USA?" is in line with their aim to achieve "Rights Respecting Schools" status. The video shows how schools in New York State have introduced projects which illustrate the connections between countries around the world, promoting the idea of global citizenship.
"Joined-up Design for Schools: Storing Our Stuff" models an innovative way to work with children to improve the school environment. Based on this video, Howard explains how he is planning to enlist the help of the school council to redesign the room where the after-school club meets.
Finally, "Literacy the Whole Story: Key Stage 2 Parents" relates to the emphasis on gaining basic skills which, for Howard and his school, extends to helping parents and careers acquire basic skills.
