A supportive induction tutor can be key to the wellbeing and success of an NQT. Tutors at three schools share their experiences and offer helpful tips.
There are several ways to ensure the smooth introduction of an NQT to his or her school. These include introducing the NQT to their class and school staff before the new term and keeping an eye out for personality clashes. Looking out for CPD opportunities outside of school and utilising the skills and experience of the rest of the staff are also important.
Lastly, if problems arise, it's crucial that everyone knows in plenty of time.
