Using ICT to Engage Parents

Description

By insuring every student has access to the internet at home, one school has managed not only to raise attendance but also improve performance and behaviour.

Shireland Collegiate Academy in the West Midlands has distributed 2,000 computers among parents, allowing them to check the progress of their children and engage in school life through the schools portal.

This website also provides community and lifestyle information, which reaches out to new families settling in the area.

This strategy has gone a long way to highlighting the potential benefits of the "Home Access" programme, which is soon to be rolled out across the country.
