Chef Michael Coaker works with a GCSE class at Knights Templar school, Hertfordshire in the hope of impressing the headteacher and governors with their culinary skills.
Michael has come to the school as part of the Chefs Adopt a School project. He sets the class the challenge of cooking a three course, Spring-themed lunch made from fresh Mediterranean ingredients.
The meal is served in the library and is hailed as a great success. It also calls into question the recognition that Food Technology receives as an important GCSE subject.
Back in the kitchen, the students reflect on how they feel about having to drop the subject for A level and their teacher, Pat Pett, reveals that she must retire soon. How will the school replace her given the national shortage of qualified teachers?
