Year 4 pupils Anthony and Blue invite us to share their learning experience with negative numbers.
We follow Blue's group as they try to figure out the sum of three minus negative two, we then see high-flyer Anthony make a confident start to some calculations, before making some common mistakes. He has more success when using cards but feels frustration at needing them.
Blue and Anthony's honest reflections will help teachers to understand what goes through a child's mind as they introduce this confusing area of maths to pupils.
