Peter Curran travels from New York to Washington to find out what is being done to tackle educational inequalities.
In New York, Curran learns about a foundation set up by millionaire George Weiss to help poor school children and their families. Visiting schools in Brooklyn and Scarsdale, he witnesses the inequality that exists between urban and suburban schools, and meets students who are investigating the causes.
Curran then travels to Washington DC to see what is being done at a national level to tackle these problems. He finds out how the government is trying to revive urban public education with charter schools and the No Child Left Behind initiative.
Finally he visits a Knowledge is Power Programme school, which is believed by many to be the solution to America's urban education problems. Unlike other attempts, these schools appear to be rolling out successfully nationwide.
