The Hayesbrook School, an all-boys school near Tonbridge, uses sport as a tool to engage its students in many aspects of the curriculum, and beyond.
For instance, the theme of "sport in refugee camps" is used to stimulate discussion in a citizenship class, whilst an analysis of decathlon results helps students understand the practical applications of their maths lesson.
Hayesbrook also uses sports leadership as an effective tool for engaging students.
Meanwhile, at The Coseley School near Dudley, staff have harnessed the potential of IT and video technology used in the PE department to effect change throughout the school.
The school's website - Coseley TV - has proved invaluable in promoting students' sense of engagement and self-worth, and has changed the direction of at least one student's life.
