This programme looks at a French healthy food scheme, called the Fleurbaix Laventie Ville Sante project. Run by Agnes Lommez, it has not only helped to drastically reduce the level of childhood obesity but has also succeeded in creating an understanding of nutrition and health from the early years.
The Fleurbaix Laventie Ville Sante project was begun in 1992 in two small towns in northern France, about 40km from Lille. Although it involved nearly all the inhabitants, it was focused on the Henri Puchois primary and junior schools. At all these schools food has become an integral part of learning, in order to create an understanding of nutrition and health.
In the programme Cyril Ducatez, one of the pupils from the junior school, introduces the key people in the scheme and the rest of the programme explores how the scheme became such a local success.
