Author of the best selling Fermat's Last Theorem and Big Bang, Simon Singh unravels the mystery of mathematics making it exciting and engaging.
To illustrate the importance of teaching applied maths to pupils, he brings along an original WW2 Enigma code machine to a Year 11 class at Queen Elizabeth's School for Boys in Barnet.
The boys are entranced, as the influence of mathematics on the course of history is graphically illustrated by their guest teacher.
Simon explains how mathematics has been used for secret codes from 1573, when the school was founded, to today's sophisticated internet security systems.
